Birth Control - Condom

One of the most common forms of birth control is the condom, it's been used for over 400 years. But how much do you know about them?
The condom is worn by men during sexual intercourse and it put on the erect penis. The condom physically blocks the man's ejaculation from entering the woman or partner.
Condoms prevent the spread of STD/STI's but does not guarantee it, and can also prevent a woman from becoming pregnant.
Condoms are traditionally made from latex but are also made from lambskin and polyurethane.
How Reliable is It?
If you use a condom perfectly it is 98% effective.
BUT
Most of us do not use it perfectly so the real rate is around 78% to 90%.
There are things you can do to ensure your condoms are more effective and will help guard you against STI's and pregnancy.
- Use a water or silicone based lubricant, not an oil based one, oils will damage the latex
- Do Not store a condom in your pocket or wallet, that goes for the guys too! The heat from your body or wear and tear will break the latex down
- Do Not chose condoms with spermicide, it shortens the life span of the condom
- Do Not ignore the instructions, they are there for a reason
- Do Not use condoms past the expiry date
- After ejaculation have the man hold onto the condom when pulling out
- When opening the wrapper, be sure not to damage/rip the condom
- Buy the correct size, we all want men to feel good about themselves, but they need to have the correct size condom
- Do Not use two condoms at the same time, or "double bagging"
- Using a condom once does not mean you are forever protected
- Only have sex with a partner you absolutely trust, people have sabotaged condoms for their own personal reasons
