Birth Control - Female Condom

birth control female condom

The female condom is a less popular form of birth control but you should still know it's an available option.

The female condom is used to prevent pregnancy and the spread of STI/STD's. The female condom is more effective at preventing the spread of disease, as it covers a larger area then the male condom.

Newer version of the female condom are now made of latex and do not make crinkling noises like the previous versions made from polyurethane.

How Effective is It?

With perfect use the female condom is 95% effective. With typical use it is 79% effective.

You can help to make it more effective:

  • Use a water or silicone based lubricant, oil based one will break down the rubber
  • Do Not store it in your pocket or wallet, that goes for the guys too! The heat from your body or wear and tear will break the latex down
  • Do Not ignore the instructions, they are there for a reason
