Birth Control - Spermicide

Spermicide is a substance that kills sperm, in order to prevent pregnancy. It is inserted into the vagina prior to sexual intercourse. While this method can be used by its self, it is highly recommended that you use another form of birth control with it. Usually condoms, cervical caps, sponges, and diaphragms are used. Spermicide does not prevent STD/STIs.

How Reliable Is It?

With perfect use the rate is 82% effective.

With typical use the rate is 71% effective.

Side Effects

Spermicide can cause itching, burning or irritation in both partners. In women it can cause Urinary Tract Infections and Yeast Infections.
