Birth Control - Withdrawl Method

Coitus interruptus, withdrawal or pull out method, all mean the same thing, which is to end sexual intercourse before ejaculation. But this method is very unreliable and it does not protect against STD/STIs.

How Reliable Is It?

With perfect use the rate is 96% effective.

With typical use the rate is 72% - 85% effective.

How Does It Work?

This method is often chosen due to a lack of access of birth control or the side effects of some birth control, as some men and women do not want the side effects.

The withdrawal method has to be performed properly in order for it to be effective, and in most cases it's not. The biggest problem is lack of control on the man's part. He has to time it perfectly so that no semen ends up in the vagina or on the vulva (as it can still migrate).

It is believed that pre-ejaculate contains sperm, which would get the woman pregnant. There is no overwhelming evidence of this, but it's still better to be safe.

Some couples find that one or both are sexually unsatisfied with this method and that can lead to a lot of emotional strain in the relationshp.
